As part of PPOC (Professional Photographers of Canada) there is a Regional Image Competition and a National Image Competition. Regionals take place in the fall and Nationals takes place in February. These four images were submitted to the 2023 National Image Competition and all four made it to the show. 3 accepted and 1 merit.
The one I am most excited about is the white cat. I had submitted it to the regionals and it was not accepted. I went back to the drawing board so to speak. I took all the feedback and worked on the image. I re-edited the image, didn't like it, edited it again and the 3rd time I felt it just had to be put into the show. The judges agreed. It made it through on a merit. It felt so good. This image spoke to me from the very beginning. As soon as I knew I had a white cat coming into the studio, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
Alfred, the Dachshund came into the studio with his Feline sister. I chose Alfred on his own though as the facial expression just says it all. Absolute joy. His little body running around makes me giggle. If I were to have a small dog, the Dachshund would be it.
The little boy is quite Mischievous. He is my friends son and such a joy to watch. You never know what he is going to do or say but I will always know I will laugh. He gives the best hugs too.
The Rosebud was thrown in on a whim. This was taken in a quiet time of my life. I shot it as an experimentation. Some people look at this rose and see a story told, some people just see beauty and others see the wilt of an unbloomed bud. What do you see?
I love my photography journey. From where I started to where I am now is phenomenal. I keep learning and keep growing as a photographer and I hope it never ends. You change and evolve with everything you photograph. I have photographed everything from events to real estate to families and to pets. My favourite by far are Pets. This is where my heart is and where I find I do my best work.
I feel a connection with cats and dogs that I just don't find anywhere else. I am able to predict how they will move and react to my camera. I can follow them and feel elated to be in there presence. Every client has said I was able to capture their true personality. Every single animal has left a paw print on my heart.
Though I have decided to step away from PPOC for the time being, I am not going to stop learning my craft. The accreditations and competitions have meant so much to me. They have helped me surpass what I thought I could accomplish. The people I have met along the way have been amazing. They have been people I have been able to go to for advice and to learn from. They have pushed me to become a better person and photographer. For that, I am thankful. At some point I may return but for now, my family and my business take precedence.
Thank you PPOC!
Sending love out to all,
Lisa
